Webcam head tracking in DCS World

Follow the sky, check your instruments and look beyond the canopy. Your head controls the view while your hands stay on the HOTAS.

How to enable it in the game

DCS receives tracking through the compatible TrackIR protocol. Start TrackVisyon before the game and test inside the cockpit first.

Where to startOptions → Controls → aircraft module → Axis Commands

If the view stays still, check the aircraft's TrackIR axis column where available. There is no need to calibrate your webcam inside DCS.

Start inside the cockpit, not in an external view

Test seated in a training mission. External views and axis behaviour can differ between DCS aircraft modules.

DCS World

Step-by-step setup

  1. Prepare TrackVisyon

Choose your webcam, sit in your normal playing position and calibrate. Start tracking before launching DCS and leave the integrated engine running.

  2. Enter the cockpit

Load a training mission and try small movements left, right, up and down. Check the response from the internal cockpit view.

  3. Check the TrackIR axes

If the view does not respond, open Options → Controls, select your aircraft module, then Axis Commands. Check assignments in the TrackIR column where available. Adjust only the affected axes; do not reset your HOTAS or keyboard profile.

  4. Find your preferred feel

The included profile is a useful starting point. Mapping Studio lets you steady the centre for reading instruments and adjust rotation for following a target, without over-amplifying every movement.

If your view does not respond

Works in the app, but not in DCS?

Close the game, check that tracking and the engine are active, then reopen DCS. Avoid running another head-tracking output at the same time.

Only one aircraft is affected?

Check that module's control profile. Do not clear all bindings: note any changes and test in a simple mission first.

One axis feels too sensitive?

Adjust one axis at a time in Mapping Studio. Yaw and pitch turn your view; X, Y and Z translations depend on the movements supported by the module.
